Let’s make sure we do everything we can to support our grassroots partners on the ground through this climate disaster. Will you help us?
Our partners on the ground fight heroic battles to stop further petrochemical build out, thereby slowing down the effects of extreme weather for us all. And right now, they need our help. The Story of Stuff will match every dollar contributed to double the aid reaching these groups in need. Your contribution will go directly to: RISE St. James, the Louisiana Bucket Brigade, Another Gulf Is Possible Collaborative, Gulf Coast Center for Law and Poverty, and others working towards rapid response and recovery.
RISE St. James’ Sharon Lavigne is a tireless fighter for the rights of her community members in Louisiana’s Cancer Alley. We're heartbroken to hear from Sharon that she and many of her neighbors are facing devastation from Hurricane Ida -- houses have been destroyed, power lines are down, and the multiple chemical plants surrounding them are flaring, emitting toxic gases into the air.
Looking ahead, the warming climate and continued interest in even more petrochemical build-out in the region will only make matters worse. If the Formosa plant does end up being built, it will be one of the biggest emitters of climate-warming carbon dioxide in the country, causing an unprecedented acceleration of climate disasters that cause flooding and damage all the way up to New York. One of the major forces fighting this build out are environmental warriors like Sharon and her allies. To keep up the fight, our partner groups need our support now. Will you chip in?
