Story of Stuff made a special documentary on this close-knit community of canners in 2020, who contribute to society in among the most meaningful ways possible: by turning litter into a usable resource. 

Sure We Can have been on the verge of eviction -- due to gentrification -- for years. Now, they are so close to being able to purchase the lot they've been renting, and secure a permanent home. 

Sure We Can is the only non-profit, unhoused-friendly redemption center in New York. The space serves more than 400 canners, provides educational activities for schools and universities, and promotes sustainability, recycling, and composting. What’s more, Sure We Can is incredibly effective at removing tens of millions of plastic, aluminum, and glass containers from the waste stream.
