Don't Waste the Games!

Angelenos have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform LA for the better. We're calling on LA's Mayor, City Council, and leaders to act now and pass a policy to reduce single-use waste and prioritize reuse at major event venues in time for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Megaevents are increasingly known for catering to sponsors and visitors instead of locals -- we have to make sure Angelenos also see the opportunities and benefits of the Games. This is a huge moment for LA to seize the opportunity to invest in and spotlight real sustainability, showcasing reuse as a solution to the plastic problem on a global stage. And once the lights go down, LA could be left with a positive legacy -- reuse systems, instead of mountains of waste, that continue to benefit our communities long after the Games.

Single-use plastics don't just pollute our beaches and neighborhoods, they expose people to harmful chemicals and microplastics and create unnecessary waste. Everyone deserves access to safe, healthy, reusable options that prevent waste and protect us and the places we love.

Message LA's leaders and urge them to prioritize reuse at the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games! They need to hear from you. Plus, personalize your message and share why this issue matters to you.

Together, we can protect our health, reduce plastic pollution, support local businesses, and build a legacy that lasts long after the Games are over.

We're calling on Los Angeles City leaders to pass a policy that requires reuse at stadiums and venues in time for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. LA has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to show the world what sustainability at the Games and in a city can look like.

Reuse Stops Plastic Pollution Before it Starts:

  • Eliminates single use plastics and litter
  • Reduces emissions and helps fight climate change
  • Saves water and natural resources
  • Protects our health by reducing exposure to toxic microplastics
  • Creates good local jobs and strengthens communities

The Games are less than 2 years out. It's a big business and a big cultural moment, attracting audiences and inward investment to the city. The Games are the world’s most popular sporting and entertainment event -- and usually the most televised. And that means a huge moment for LA to seize the opportunity to invest in and spotlight real sustainability, showcasing reuse as a solution to the plastic problem on a global stage. And once the lights go down, LA could be left with a positive legacy -- reuse systems, instead of mountains of waste, that continue to benefit our communities long after the Games.

Single-use plastics don't just pollute our iconic beaches and neighborhoods, they waste resources, pump out greenhouse gases that drive climate change, prop up the oil and gas industry, and expose people to harmful chemicals and microplastics. Everyone deserves access to safe, healthy, reusable options that prevent waste and protect us and the places we love.

But there are some hurdles in the way. We need to show widespread support for our city leaders to act and secure this in time. And the upcoming mayoral elections may dilute their attention on these issues. In addition, we're also preparing to play defense, as major corporate sponsors like Coca-Cola have a tendency to veer mega-events off the rails, going for greenwashing instead of gold. We just saw this happen at the FIFA World Cup, and are mobilizing to make sure it doesn't happen at the 2028 Games.

This is why we need your help. Can you message your LA leaders today?
